A big group of New York Metropolis law enforcement officials charged at protesters, diners and pedestrians in Manhattan’s West Village on Saturday evening, arresting 12 folks and elevating questions concerning the aggressive response.

However images and movies from the incident appeared to indicate a distinct scene. Photographs captured from completely different angles appear to depict a small group of protesters on one facet of the road and dozens of officers on the opposite facet.

Molly Dillon, a coverage advisor to New York state senator Alessandra Biaggi, instructed NBC Information she was within the neighborhood when she noticed “the large quantity of law enforcement officials.”

“I’ve lived in New York for 31 years and this was probably the most unhinged factor I’ve ever seen,” she mentioned.

The NYPD mentioned a press release that “a bunch of roughly 150 demonstrators got here to the sixth precinct and blocked site visitors,” and so they took folks into custody “after a number of warnings to clear the sidewalk.”

In whole, police arrested 12 folks, eight of whom acquired summonses for disorderly conduct, the NYPD mentioned.
